GuessIt Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026 · Deutsche Fassung (authoritative)
GuessIt is an estimation duel: you answer questions with a number and play against friends or random opponents. You don't need an email address or your real name. This policy explains what data is processed, who can see it, why, and what your rights are.
1. Controller

Email: support@jr-apps.de
2. Guest account and profile
On first launch the app creates a guest account with a random identifier. You choose a username and a colour; we also store the app language (German or English) and when you started playing.
Visible to others: your username, colour and game statistics (duels played and won, crowns, accuracy overall and per topic, record against individual opponents) can be seen by all signed-in players so they can find and play you. Don't pick a username that reveals your real name if you don't want that.
- Purpose: providing the game, finding opponents, showing results.
- Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the app you use).
- Retention: until you delete your account (section 8).
3. Friends and blocking
You can search for players by username, send, accept or decline friend requests, and block players. A friendship is visible only to the two people involved, a block only to the person who blocked. Blocked players can no longer find or challenge you.
- Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- Retention: until removed or unblocked, or until you delete your account.
4. Duels
For every duel we store the players, the topics and questions, your guesses, the time you took, the points and the score. You only see another player's guess once you have answered the same question yourself. Our server measures the time so nobody can cheat.
Invite links: an invite link contains a one-time code for the duel (e.g. guessit.jr-apps.de/j/…). Whoever opens it first and joins plays against you, and you become friends. You decide what you share and where in your device's share menu.
Random opponents: for a duel against a random opponent we pick a player of similar skill, using a skill rating that changes with your duels. If nobody turns up within a few minutes, a computer opponent labelled "Bot" takes the seat. It replays real earlier guesses by other players on the same question, using only the number and the time taken, never a name or identifier. Your guesses may later be replayed by a bot in the same way, without anyone being able to tell they were yours.
- Purpose: running and scoring duels, fair matchmaking, statistics.
- Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- Retention: as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, duels remain for your opponents but no longer linked to you (section 8).
5. Reporting questions
If you think an answer is wrong or a question unclear, you can report it after answering, with a reason and an optional note. We store the question, the reason, your note, the time and your identifier (so each person reports a question once). Frequently reported questions are taken out of play automatically until we have checked them.
- Purpose: correct and clear questions.
- Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in fair, correct questions).
- Retention: until you delete your account.
6. Servers, hosting and logs
All game data is stored on a self-hosted Appwrite instance at Hetzner Online GmbH (Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen) in Germany, which also serves the invite page guessit.jr-apps.de. Hetzner is bound to our instructions as a processor. No data is transferred to countries outside the EU.
When the app or the invite page reaches the server, it necessarily processes your IP address, the time and the type of request. This is required to establish the connection and run the server securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are not combined with other data and kept only as long as needed for operation and security.
7. Storage on your device
On your device the app stores your guest login, your username and colour, your settings (e.g. language and notification switches) and an opened invite link until you use it. This is strictly necessary for the app to work (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). The practice round runs entirely on your device.
8. Deleting your account
In the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account. We immediately delete your guest account with all logins, your profile and statistics, your friendships and blocks, and your reports. In duels you played with others we replace your identifier with a random one, so your opponents keep their results but they are no longer linked to you; running duels end. The data on your device is reset. Without the app you can request deletion by email to support@jr-apps.de.
9. App stores and contact
The app is distributed via the Apple App Store and Google Play. When you download it, Apple or Google process data under their own privacy policies, which we don't control.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once your request is settled and no statutory retention applies.
10. What we don't do
GuessIt currently shows no ads, offers no purchases and uses no analytics, statistics or crash reporting tools. We don't sell data and don't access your contacts, photos or location. If any of this changes, we will update this policy first.
11. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Write to support@jr-apps.de. As we store no names or email addresses, please tell us your username so we can find your account.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the one responsible for us: Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (Kavalleriestr. 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany).
